Preservation strategies are conservation efforts that set out to limit human impact on natural resources and ecosystems. Examples of this would be carbon caps, regulating mining, banning the hunt of endangered animals, waste management, habitat protection, utilization of reneweable energy, organic farming, mandating low-emission transport, etc.
On the other hand, Adaptive strategies are conservation efforts that recognize that the state of the environment has fundamentally shifted due to human activity and thus requires new means to adapt to these changes. Examples of this would be the de-extinction and genetic engineering/editing of animals & plantlife, engineering of drought resistant crops, construction of green corridors (i.e. man made bridges that animals can cross over highways and train tracks), etc.
